St. Paul Urban Ministry
The
St. Paul Urban Ministry is an outreach of the Woodbury Church.
While this ministry exists to help all people develop a
relationship with Christ we found that God has created opportunities
for us within Hmong community. St. Paul has the largest
concentration of
Hmong refugees in the U.S. The
Urban Ministry seeks opportunities to develop relationships with people
of the Hmong community in order to lead them to a relationship with
Christ.
A message from Gary,
Hello, I am here to introduce you to the St. Paul Urban
ministry. While we seek to reach all peoples of all ages, the Urban
Ministry over the years has evolved primarily into a ministry
to Hmong teens in St. Paul. A typical week starts with worship Sunday night. We
rent a conveniently located room at a hotel for services and generally have 20-30 people in attendance.
Wednesday evenings we have a group devotional. Thursdays
we host an outreach to younger kids ages 5-12 called "Kids Konnection". It's a Vacation Bible School like format where we sing songs, play games, do crafts, and have a
Bible lesson.
Saturdays we have "Game Night", which is just like it
sounds, a chance to get teens together in a positive environment and
have fun. We conclude the week with a short devotional.
Between these regularly scheduled activities we are in
constant contact with the teens and their families. We have a number of
individual bible studies with the kids as well as their parents.
We also try to serve them in more practical everyday ways like
giving rides and assisting with errands.
There's always something new going on and if you
really want to stay up-to-date make sure you check out our very own urban ministry blog.
While the all the glory goes to God, we know that He's been
able to use us to change lives. We can always use your prayers
but there are opportunities to volunteer. Give us a call and help
change a life. Gary Weseman
